Charles Aurand, 85, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2010, at the Whitefish Care and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by family. Charlie was born June 9, 1924, in Halfmoon, to Parley and Agnes Aurand. He went to school up until the eighth grade, when he had to drop out to help on the family farm. After a short stint in the military, he went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad where he worked hard for 58 years. After marrying lovely young Peggy Heindel, he raised two daughters, Janet and Charlene, and one son, Daniel. The family lived in Essex until the big flood of 64, when they moved to Lake Five, then to Columbia Heights for 16 years. He and Peggy moved in with their daughter Charlene for a couple of years, and then moved into the Whitefish Care and Rehab Center, where Peggy still resides. Charlie loved to laugh, sing, go fishing with the kids, and cook. He made the best sauerkraut on the planet! All of which he did very loudly! He is survived by his wife, Peggy; son, Daniel; and daughter, Charlene. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, at Glacier Memorial Gardens.
