POLSON — Sallie Sams went 4-for-4 with two triples and knocked in five runs as the Lady Pirates improved to 5-0 to start the season with a 11-1 win over Northwestern A foe Whitefish on Thursday.

Adding to the hit parade was Makaliah Wilson, who went 3-4 with a double, and Riley Kenney, who went 3-4 for Polson (3-0 in conference).

Shalaina Duford struck out nine and walked five and picked up the win from the circle.

“It was nice to see different girls come up and get the RBIs and hits,” Polson coach Larry Smith said.

“For as young a team as we are, we really have gotten out of the starting gates early.”

The Lady Pirates totaled 15 hits, had no errors in the game and exploded for five runs in the sixth.

Kayla Duford and Ashley Johnson each added two hits and an RBI apiece and Colleen Jacobson was 1-1 with a RBI.

Emma Baldanado tallied the lone RBI for Whitefish (3-3 overall, 2-2 in conference) and Madison Tveidt finished with two hits.

Both Polson and Whitefish head to the Frenchtown Tournament today.
