FRENCHTOWN - The Polson Pirates dropped their first game of the season but regained their winning ways and earned a split on the second day of the Frenchtown softball tournament on Saturday.

Freshman Martina Marquardt, making her first varsity start, hit a solo home run in Polson's three-run fifth inning but Polson ran out of time and lost to Butte Central 7-5. The game was called after six innings due to time allotment.

In the following game, the Pirates put together a four-run second inning and held off Missoula Loyola 7-3.

Riley Kenney went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI and Polson improved to 7-1 on the season.

"I was glad to see them come back and respond to a loss," Polson coach Larry Smith said. "I was wondering how they would react for not losing a game up to that point."

Kenney finished with six hits on the day, Staci Benson had four, including two doubles,
