JoAnn Miller Loy, 76, of Walnut Creek, Calif., died unexpectedly April 15, 2010, at John Muir Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. JoAnn was born Feb. 17, 1934, in Bottineau, N.D., to Gertrude and Bert Miller. She attended Flathead County High School and after graduation attended Sacred Heart Nursing School in Spokane. She enlisted in the U.S.A.F. and ended her military service as a first lieutenant. She married Clifford Loy and resided in New Hampshire. JoAnn was proudest of her daughter Desiree, who lost her life in the Air Force as a boom operator at Beale A.F.B. After Desiree s death, JoAnn moved to Walnut Creek to be near her sister Nettie. She is survived by her sister Nettie Miller of San Francisco and dear relatives in Montana and North Dakota. She leaves behind wonderful friends in Walnut Creek, San Francisco and New Hampshire. JoAnn was a caring and loving person. She was a friend to all who knew her, loved to entertain and spent hours at the dog park with her dog Joey making friends. JoAnn will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to have their lives touched by her. There will be a memorial service celebrating her life May 23 in Walnut Creek. In lieu of flowers, JoAnn asked donations be given to the S.P.C.A. or other animal protection groups.
