Fired-up Glacier manhandles Dogs

BUTTE - The Glacier Wolfpack recorded eight pins en route to a 60-27 dual win Friday over host Butte.

The Wolfpack has been ready to wrestle for several days now and it apparently showed when it got on the mat for the first time.

"In the practice room, they've been getting pretty physical with each other, itching to get out there," said Wolfpack coach Mark Fischer.

"They were fired up."

Glacier was down 3-0 after the first match of the day at 105 pounds. But even that match had reasons to celebrate, Fischer said.

That's because the Wolfpack's Christian Knopp was taking on defending 98-pound champion Zak Harney - and he stayed close all match long.

"He just wrestled really well against him," Fischer said.

"He got us pumped up because he was wrestling a state champion. For him to come out there and keep it close ... I think that deflated (the Bulldogs) a little bit. I think they expected a quick pin in that first match," Fischer said.

"But (the Wolfpack members) all did a good job. Overall, everybody wrestled really tough," he added.

"I feel really good going into tomorrow (Polson Invitational). We'll see what happens.

"Zach Barber (125) pinned a real tough kid in the second period with a spiral and Brayden Roberts took care of a tough kid in 56 seconds. Brayden looked like an animal out there," the coach added.

Those recording pins for Glacier were Alex Mitchell (119), Zach Barber (125), Tanner Stupak (130), Brayden Roberts (145), Shane St. Onge (152), Dawson Day (171), Boyce Ballard (215) and Joel Horn (285).
