Glacier, Flathead finish 1-2 at Corvallis meet
Glacier High School cruised to victory at the Corvallis Invitational Speech, Debate and Drama Tournament over the weekend, outdistancing second-place Flathead High School by 69 points.
The Wolfpack finished the two-day tournament with 231 points, enough to claim the Class AA victory and the highest point total of any team at the meet. Flathead came in second with 162 points. Bozeman High School’s 123 points earned the Hawks third place.
Glacier head coach Greg Adkins called the weekend “a great win for our program and for our team! We are working at getting better and better — especially being stronger in the final rounds.”
Flathead head coach Karen Downes was likewise pleased with her team’s performance. Several team members were unable to make it to the tournament, but the school still defeated Bozeman, the defending state champions.
“I am very pleased with our second-place finish,” she said. “We had a great showing with nearly a third of our varsity squad missing.”
Columbia Falls High School won the tournament’s Class A competition with 78 points. Stevensville and Hamilton came in second and third, respectively.
“The team is developing well and continuing to improve as we get further into our season,” Columbia Falls head coach Tara Norick said. “We are looking forward to the tournament next weekend in Whitefish.”
In the Class A drama tournament, Ronan and Libby finished in second and third places behind Corvallis.
Bigfork, the only Class B school competing in drama, took Class B drama honors. Loyola Sacred Heart High School of Missoula won the Class B speech tournament.
Local Class A and B schools compete Saturday in Whitefish. Flathead and Glacier travel to Billings this weekend for a two-day meet.
