Tip-off: Bigfork saves day for Northwestern A

HAMILTON - It was a very long day for Northwestern A's girls basketball teams at the Western A Tip-off Tournament on Friday.

Southwestern A schools dominated first-day action, winning five of the six matchups.

Bigfork, which competes in District 7B during the regular season, gave Northwestern A its only victory, dropping Hamilton 56-32.

Northwestern A will be looking for a better showing today as another round of six games is on the schedule with action moving to Corvallis.

Bigfork put the game away by outscoring Hamilton 22-3 in the fourth quarter.

Mallery Knoll led a balanced Bigfork offense with 17 points. Caitlin Charlebois followed with 11 and Melissa VanDerveer was next with 10.

Frenchtown outscored Polson 30-20 in the final half to pull out the victory.

Sarah Lester of Frenchtown led all scorers with 19 points.

Dillon jumped out to a 16-6 first-quarter lead en route to a 14-point victory.

Alex Brammer tossed in 17 points to lead Dillon, while Libby's Jamie Gilden had a game-high 16.
