Kalispell store offers glass recycling option

Conservation-minded residents of the Flathead now can recycle their glass.

Target has offered recycling for all colors of glass since April, according to Montana Danford, an executive team leader at the Kalispell store.

The recycling was initiated as part of Earth Day observances, according to a press release from the Target.com website.

Recycling bins are located at the front of the Hutton Ranch Road store near guest services.

The Minneapolis-based department store chain also recycles plastics, including plastic bags, and small batteries.

A semi-trailer that normally would return empty to the Target distribution center in Albany, Ore., now returns with recyclables, Danford said.

Although the items aren’t weighed, the truck is one-third to one-half full for each of its weekly return trips.

The glass recycling, in particular, has been popular, with employees emptying the bin four or five times a day.

“People bring in cart loads of it,” he said.

The store is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Target has 1,740 stores in 49 states. All stores participate in the recycling program.
