Boys hoops: Polson nips Whitefish; C-Falls edges Sentinel

POLSON - Louis Mohr tossed in 22 points and Kyle Bagnell finished with 15 as Polson cruised to a 76-54 Northwestern A boys basketball victory over Whitefish on Saturday.

That was a season scoring high for Mohr.

Polson held a 10-point advantage after eight minutes of play and led 33-13 at the half.

Polson (3-1 overall and 1-0 league) scored 43 points in the second half.

Gage Vasquez totaled 13 points for Whitefish.

Polson concludes the 2010 portion of its schedule on Tuesday hosting Stevensville.

MISSOULA - Nick Emerson scored 14 points and Parker Johnson added nine as the Columbia Falls Wildcats overcame a slow start to defeat host Missoula Sentinel.

Sentinel led 14-4 after the first quarter and was up 22-19 at half. But Columbia Falls owned the third quarter, 15-8.

Kaleb Johnson added six rebounds and had three steals. Austin Barth added three blocks and Parker Johnson had a block and three steals for the Wildcats (4-0).

THOMPSON FALLS - Chris Ibach hit a trey with 3 seconds left to lift Eureka past Thompson Falls for its first victory of the season in a District 7-B matchup.

Bryton Guckenberg prevented Thompson Falls from getting off a game-tying shot with a big steal.

Guckenberg had a huge game for the Lions. In addition to scoring seven points, he pulled down 17 rebounds, 12 on the defensive end.

"He worked very hard for us," Eureka coach Chad Dunn said.

"He had a great defensive game."

Ryan Holder scored 13 of his game-high 31 points in the first quarter for Eureka.

Tanner Peterson tallied 14 points for Eureka and Tanner Blankers 12, eight coming in the fourth period.

Eureka (1-4 overall and 1-1 league) hosts Mission on Tuesday.

MISSOULA - Loyola outscored Bigfork 11-3 in the third period to gain a little breathing room on its way to a nonconference victory over Bigfork.

Bigfork led at the half 27-25.

Bigfork was led offensively by Christian Ker with 17 points.

Loyola's Everett Johnston led all scorers with 26 points.
