Sorensen's big night carries Bigfork boys

BIGFORK - Carter Sorensen's big night helped Bigfork get back in the win column on Tuesday.

The senior had 19 points, seven steals and six rebounds off the bench and the Vikings used a big second-half to defeat Thompson Falls 55-36 in District 7B boys basketball.

A night after losing to Ronan, Bigfork improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in district after outscoring Thompson Falls 29-16 in the final two quarters.

"Sometimes we win and I'm not that happy and last night we lost and I was really happy and the reason was we put forth the effort to become the team we're trying to be," Bigfork head coach Paul LaMott said. "Tonight we came out with that same intensity and stuck with it and didn't quit."

Christian Ker had 14 points, five rebounds and four steals and Travis Knoll chipped in three points, four steals and five rebounds for the Vikes.

Bigfork's next game is Jan. 4 at home against Mission.

EUREKA - Ryan Holder scored 17 points, Chris Ibach had 12 and the Lions picked up their second District 7B win of the season.

"It's nice to go into break with a win," Eureka head coach Chad Dunn said.

Bryton Guckenberg had 11 points and Tanner Blankers added 10 and Eureka (2-4, 2-1) shot 14-for-20 from the free throw line.

Eureka will play at Columbia Falls on Jan. 6.

POLSON - Tyler Gavlak and Zach Gavlak combined for 37 points and the Yellowjackets escaped Polson with a Class A nonconference win.

Kyle Bagnell paced the Pirates (3-2, 1-0) with 19 points and Louis Mohr had 16.

Stevensville went 16-for-21 from the free throw line while Polson was 4-for-4.

The Pirates' next game is at home against Ronan on Jan. 7.

COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho - Glacier suffered a rough night shooting, going 6-for-44 from the field and losing a low-scoring nonconference road game.

Ryan Edwards had six points and 10 rebounds and Bryan Chery scored a game-high 11 points for Glacier (3-2).

The Wolfpack's next game is at home on Jan. 4 against Missoula Sentinel.

BIGFORK - Mallery Knoll scored 18 points, Caitlin Charlebois had 16 as the Valkyries cruised to their fourth win of the season.

Qunici Paine added 10 points for Bigfork (4-1, 2-0), which jumped ahead 38-16 at halftime.

The Vals' next game is Jan. 4 at home against Mission at 6 p.m.

Polson saw a 29-18 halftime lead shrink in the second half but still came away with the win. Jonna Grant had six points and Nina Orozco-Charlo added five for the home team.

COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho - Lake City made 12 3-pointers en route to a big win over Glacier.

Nicole Heavirland led the Wolfpack with eight points and Baylee Quay and Cassidy Hashley each scored seven. Quay also had 15 rebounds and Glacier led in that category as a team 39-31.

The next game for the Wolfpack (3-2 overall) is at Missoula Sentinel on Jan. 4.
