Boys Prep Basketball: Glacier upends Polson

POLSON — Shay Smithwick-Hann scored 12 of his game-high 27 points in the third period Saturday to lift Glacier to a 74-61 nonconference boys basketball victory over Polson.

Glacier (4-3 overall) outscored Polson (5-2) 21-12 in the third period to take a 57-46 advantage into the final eight minutes of play.

Polson opened the second half with four straight turnovers.

 Grahm Schmaltz added 14 points for Glacier, followed by Colter Hanson, 12, and Connor Fuller, 10.

Kyle Bagnell, 16 points, was one of three Polson players to hit double figures. Tim Rausch was next with 15 and Tyler Krell totaled 10.

Glacier hosts Missoula Big Sky on Thursday in Western AA play, while Class A Polson plays at Class B Eureka.

Plains 61, Eureka 55

EUREKA — Ryan Holder had a season high 26 points and Tanner Blankers added a career best 13, but it still wasn’t enough to help Eureka catch Plains in a District 7B matchup.

Holder scored 10 of Eureka’s 21 points in the fourth period. His career best is 28.

Blankers, a freshman, was making his first varsity start.

Brian Green and Trent Thompson led Plains with 17 and 15 points, respectively.

TROY — Bigfork stayed perfect in District 7B play with a 25-point victory over Troy.

Bigfork (7-1 overall and 5-0 league) led 24-12 at the half and outscored Troy in the final half 35-23.

Keenan Evans tossed in 12 points to lead Bigfork. Christian Ker and Lael Richmond both added 10.

Ryan Rayson had 13 points for Troy.

LIBBY — Libby’s Kelly May hit six field goals and went 6-for-6 from the free throw line to finish with 19 point in the Loggers’ Northwestern A victory over Ronan.

May scored 10 points in the opening half.

Libby blew the game open in the second period, outscoring Ronan 17-2.
