Three cross-country skiers got lost Monday evening after they apparently went down the wrong trail. Unsure of their location, they called Flathead County Sheriff’s deputies from a cell phone, noting they were “surrounded by trees”. The trio was found about four hours later, approximately five miles south of Blacktail Mountain. Aside from being a bit cold, they were OK. The group reportedly did not have matches or a GPS. No word on why they didn’t or couldn’t retrace their tracks back to the trailhead.

Deputies responded to a report of a prowler near Edgewood Drive around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. The worried resident reportedly heard someone on her porch who was trying to get in the front door. Authorities were unable to locate footprints around the home and speculate the strange sounds could have been due to chunks of ice falling from the roof.

In a separate prowling incident, a suspicious man opened the front door of a house, then ran off when he noticed someone was inside. Deputies were unable to locate him.

Authorities were unable to locate the older man with a puppy who was reportedly trying to get kids’ attention near a bus stop near South Woodland Drive and Haven Court Monday afternoon.

Monday afternoon, an irate tenant called deputies saying he wanted “to take a bomb and blow up” a young man who apparently was playing music too loudly for the tenant’s tastes. He told deputies he wasn’t serious about the threat, but that he did plan to yell at the young man if the music wasn’t turned down.

A man got a letter from the Arizona Department of Public Safety for a traffic violation, which he thought was a scam because he said he has never been to Arizona. Deputies informed him he should call the Arizona Department of Public Safety to investigate the situation.

Deputies received 115 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Monday and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Kalispell police

Kalispell Police are investigating the two counterfeit $20 bills that turned up in deposits at a bank on West Idaho. One was from a restaurant, one from a bar. There is no indication these bills are related to the counterfeit bills circulating in the Kalispell area in December.

An elderly woman reportedly drove into oncoming traffic, then later hit a vehicle in a parking lot Tuesday morning. Officers determined she was not drunk.

Suspicious people reportedly took photos of a bank on Commons Loop early Tuesday afternoon.

Unknown items were taken from a construction site during a burglary Monday night.

Police gave a replacement bike seat to a cyclist who reportedly parked a bike at City Hall, only to return and notice the seat had been stolen.

Officers received 63 calls for service between 2:30 p.m. Monday and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Whitefish police

Whitefish Police arrested a woman, 35, on a warrant for endangering the welfare of children by intoxicating substances. Apparently she made alcohol available to someone under the legal age.

Officers arrested another woman, 19, on contempt of City Court.

And a man, 25, was arrested after he apparently violated the conditions of his release by showing up for a court date with alcohol on his breath.

Also, a bike was reported stolen from an apartment complex on Iowa Avenue Monday afternoon. It has apparently been gone for 10 days.

Officers received 27 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Monday and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
