Hoops Roundup: Polson girls upend Eureka

POLSON — Riley Kenney recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds as Polson topped Eureka 52-45 Thursday in nonconference girls basketball play.

Polson (6-2) used a 21-point second quarter to take a 31-18 halftime lead.

Nicole Davey tallied 11 points for the Pirates and pulled down eight rebounds.

Breanne Kelley and Davey both had three steals for PHS.

Cassidy Morgan, 13 points and 11 rebounds, had a double-double for Eureka (4-5).

Carly Hammond led the Lions in assists with four, while Hammond, Tayler Holder and Steph Vogelman had two steals each.

Holder led Eureka in scoring with 14 points.

Missoula Big Sky 52, Glacier 47

MISSOULA — Missoula Big Sky cashed in from long range in the fourth quarter, hitting three 3s en route to a Western AA victory over Glacier.

Glacier led 35-32 going into the fourth quarter. Big Sky outscored the Wolfpack in the final frame 20-12.

“I was very proud of them,” Glacier coach Kris Salonen said.

“They competed.”

Baylee Quay led Glacier offensively with 10 points.

Sandy Soos, who had three treys, shared team-high scoring honors for Big Sky with Elleson Tinkle. Both finished with 13 points.

WHITEFISH — Bigfork used three 13-point quarters to pull away from Whitefish for a nonconference victory.

The Valkyries (8-2) were led by Mallery Knoll, 19 points, and Quinci Paine, 18. Caitlin Charlebois added 10.

Shelby Backer just missed out on a double-double for Whitefish with nine points and eight rebounds.

Olivia Nagler had seven rebounds for Whitefish (0-8) and Jessica Slaybaugh five.

A rough night at the free throw line didn’t help Stillwater Christian School in a nonconference contest with Mt. Baker at SCS.

Stillwater (5-5) hit on just nine of 24 foul shots in falling three points short.

Samantha Red Elk led Stillwater in scoring with 16 points, nine coming in the final quarter. She was the lone bright spot at the charity stripe, sinking six of eight shots.

Morgan Paolini added 10 points for Stillwater.

Ally White had 14 points for Mt. Baker.

EUREKA — Polson outscored Eureka 13-5 in the third period to break open a tight game en route to a 10-point nonconference victory.

Kyle Bagnell, 18 points, Tim Rausch, 17, and Vince DiGiallonardo, 13, led a balanced Polson (6-2 overall) attack.

Tanner Blankers, a freshman making his second varsity start, had a season-high 15 points for Eureka (1-9). Ryan Holder added 11 and Bryton Guckenberg 10.

Mt. Baker held off Stillwater Christian School (7-3) in a wild fourth quarter for the nonconference victory at SCS.

Trent Burton, who hit three 3s in the final period, topped Stillwater in scoring with 16 points. Burton had four treys for the game.

Quinton Godes had 17 points for Mt. Baker.

Stillwater outscored Mt. Baker in the second and fourth quarters.
