MISSOULA —  Top-ranked Flathead had no trouble dispensing with Missoula Hellgate in a Western AA wrestling dual on Tuesday.

The Braves chalked up eight pins on their way to a 55-24 victory over the Knights.

Kaileb Liehr (105), Suny Cheff (119), Jake Stueben (125), Joaquin Calderon (130), Austin Bowen (145), Caleb Allen-Schmid (160), Trevor Beaman (215) and Connor Thomas (285) all won by pins for Flathead.

“We had a lot of different faces in the lineup, we put a lot of our JV in there,” Flathead coach Matt Owen said.

“They all did a good job for us.”

Owen said the Braves rested a couple of wrestlers who are nursing injuries.

“It’s also finals week,” he said. “We had a few kids working on some projects.”

WHITEFISH — Polson won five weight classes by forfeit and eight by pin to crush Whitefish in a Northwestern A dual.

Posting the pins for the fifth-ranked Polson Pirates were: Nate Brooks (130), Jacob Young (135), Mike Devlin (140), Brock Bleazard (145), Chris Cote (152),

Brock Picard (171), Josiah Clairmont (215) and Kaden Thomas (285).

Both teams were open at 189.

“Those forfeits hurt,” Whitefish coach Ryan Hoffman said.

“We need to learn to fight and get through a whole match instead of getting pinned. We just have to keep improving. We have a few weeks left.”

The lone bright spot for Whitefish was Tanner Benedict (160), who won by decision, 9-4, over Ty Fouty. In this week’s Class A individual rankings, Fouty is No. 4 in his weight class.

“They wrestled when Tanner was a sophomore,” Whitefish coach Ryan Hoffman said.

“It was one of his first matches. It was good for him to get a win this time.”
