Man dies after falling down stairs

Flathead County sheriff

An 87-year-old man was found in a pool of blood at the bottom of a staircase inside his home on West Wyoming Street Saturday afternoon. It appears the man, who reportedly was alone at the time, fell down the stairs sometime Saturday morning and died as a result of a traumatic head injury, according to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office. He was found by his son around 1:20 p.m. and  pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

Two shoplifters, aged 18 and 19, were released to their parents after they allegedly stole from a box store on U.S. 2 Friday afternoon.

A 40-year-old man refused medical attention after he reportedly fainted at a restaurant on Hutton Ranch Road Friday night.

Authorities chased off a man who was reportedly going through the dumpsters near a gas station on U.S. 2 East around 9:45 p.m. Friday.

An ungovernable 13-year-old reportedly hit someone and was throwing things inside a residence on Tallpine Ridge Saturday morning. Deputies counseled the people involved.

Smoke reportedly in the living area of a residence on Eastman Drive Saturday morning was apparently from food burning on the stove and wasn’t a cause for alarm. 

Deputies received 115 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Friday and 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Kalispell police

After her son lost his lunchbox at Russell School, a woman has reportedly been receiving text messages stating that she needs to pay a $5 ransom if she wants the lunchbox back.

Kalispell Police arrested a 59-year-old man for driving under the influence after he was reportedly involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle at the intersection of Meridian Road and Idaho Street around 10 p.m. Friday. No one was transported to the hospital.

A man reported as being disorderly outside a grocery on Third Avenue East North was arrested by police after he refused to leave Friday evening. He was also reportedly in possession of dangerous drugs. In a separate incident at the same grocery later that evening, A 22-year-old man was arrested for shoplifting, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and resisting arrest after he reportedly tried to steal a six-pack of Bud Light.

A woman called police Friday night to report her ex-husband stole her vehicle and wouldn’t return it. She was advised that his name is still on the title.

A woman called her boyfriend Friday, saying she had been drugged and sexually assaulted while at a party the night before. Concerned, he called police. The woman reportedly called him back about half an hour later, took back her story and told him she apparently cheated on him, but was afraid to tell him. Police talked to the parties involved and determined everything was OK.

A suspicious white powder seen on the basesment floor of a residence on Second Avenue East Saturday afternoon was reportedly a cleaning product. A basement window was also reportedly broken.

Officers received 65 calls for service between 2:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Columbia Falls police

Following a traffic stop along Sixth Avenue West Friday night, Columbia Falls Police arrested a 22-year-old woman for driving under the influence. 

Officers received nine calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Friday and 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Whitefish police

Whitefish Police received 20 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Friday and 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Following a collision on Big Mountain between a snowboarder and a skier, a 56-year-old man was transported to the hospital Saturday around 1 p.m.
