Glacier pins Capital, Helena
Glacier’s wrestlers wrapped up the regular season on Saturday with a pair of easy Western AA duals.
The Wolfpack crushed Helena Capital 66-21 and followed that with a 42-24 trumphing of Helena High.
Glacier had four pins — Lucas Mantel (119), Logan Clay (171), Randy Martin (189) and Dan Gilbert (285) — in the dual with Capital. Clay and Gilbert had the fastest at 42 second and 1:17, respectively.
The Wolfpack earned 42 points on seven forfeits.
Zach Barber (105), Mantel and Shane St. Onge (140) won by pin for the Wolfpack against Helena High.
“We needed a week where we had somewhat of a break,” Glacier coach Mark Fischer said.
“Just to make sure we were healed-up and ready to go for next week.”
Glacier will compete in the Western AA seeding tournament Friday and Saturday at Missoula Big Sky.
“We were really proud of the kids, especially the Helena High match,” Fischer said. “Helena has some tough kids.”
Fischer said there were several crucial matchups in that dual that had seeding tournament implications.
“We won a lot of them,” he said.
Fischer said Nick Ivavollci (130) pulled off an amazing victory.
“The kid he was wrestling was up 4-0 in the third period,” Fischer said. “He went after him and got a takedown to his back and got the win 5-4.”
Fischer said Alex Mitchell (98) also had a huge win. Mitchell decisioned Grant Boggs 4-2 in overtime.
“Boggs is one of the tougher 98 pounders,” Fischer said.
Mitchell is AA’s fourth-ranked wrestler at his weight class.
