Fireworks banned in Kalispell

The Kalispell Fire Department reminds residents that the use of fireworks within the city of Kalispell is prohibited.

Every year fire departments and emergency rooms across the country must respond to devastating consequences related to reworks.

Kalispell Fire Chief Dan Diehl recommends attending public fireworks displays put on by trained professionals.

According to the National Fire Protection Association 2008 report, fireworks caused 22, reported fires, 1,400 structure fires, 500 vehicles fires and 20,500 outdoor and other fires in an estimated $42 million in property damage.

Parents can underestimate how dangerous fireworks can be. Fireworks send 3,000 children under 15 to emergency rooms each year. Sparklers result in serious burn injuries and account for one third of the injuries to children under five.
