Tucker falls to Wagner in golf playoff

Jake Wagner of Portland, Ore., sank a short birdie putt on the second playoff hole Saturday to win the 74th annual Earl Hunt Memorial 4th of July Tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.

Wagner and Shawn Tucker of Whitefish both made par on the first playoff hole.

Wagner and Tucker finished the three-day event tied with 216 totals after 54 holes. Wagner closed with a 71 while Tucker finished with a 74.

Tucker shot 71 on Thursday and Friday to top the leaderboard.

Marcus Williams of Missoula and Chris Goldan of Manhatten tied for third and were one shot off the pace.

 Darah Newell of Helena claimed the women’s title, finishing four shots ahead of the field.

 Newell had the best round all three days, shooting 73-76-77—226.

Leslie McGetrick of Highlands Ranch, Colo., was second and four shots back.

Whitefish’s Chelsea Ray, 79-78-86—243, finished fourth and Tess Stevenson of Kalispell, 77-82-87—246, was eighth.
