Loggers move into first place

LIBBY - Back-to-back wins put the Libby Loggers atop the conference standings heading into the final stretch of the Class A American Legion baseball season.

In the first game of a conference doubleheader on Wednesday, Chris Herbig went 3 for 4 with four RBIs, Justin Wicka had two RBIs and a double and Libby pounded the Glacier Twins 11-1. Starter Dustin Morningstar earned the win after striking out four and allowing only one hit after the first inning.

In the nightcap, Herbig struck out seven and Eric Riddle went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and Libby turned in a repeat 11-1 victory. Joe Coker added three RBIs.

Libby (5-3 in conference) has won nine of the last 12. The district tournament begins July 24 in Hamilton.

"Those were big conference wins for us. We're trying to peak going into the end of the season and we continued to get better today. That's exciting." Libby head coach Kelly Morford said.

Connor Donahue had a double and an RBI on the day for Glacier (3-5).
