Outdoors workshop for women planned near Bigfork from Aug. 27-29

The 17th annual Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshop, sponsored by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, will be Aug. 27-29 at the Big Sky Bible Camp near Bigfork.

The hands-on workshop offers opportunities to build a survival shelter, cast a fly rod, use a map and compass, learn to shoot a rifle and cook a Dutch-oven treat. 

New classes this year include rafting and river rescue, backpacking and archery.

The $200 fee includes class instruction, meals and lodging. Partial scholarships are available. Space is limited and classes are filled as registrations are received.

Teachers who attend the workshop can receive continuing education credit from the Office of Public Instruction.  

The workshop is designed for women but is open to anyone 18 years and over with a desire to learn new skills.

July 17: Miles City BOW Workshop, Spotted Eagle Recreation Area;  Fee: Free but pre-registration is required and space is limited.

July 23-25: Birding in Montana, Beartooth Wildlife Management Area near Holter Lake; Fee $89.
