A 71-year-old man died from injuries sustained in a logging-related incident in Sanders County Friday.

Sanders County dispatch said the incident occurred outside Hot Springs in the Lonepine area around 10:08 a.m.

Sanders County Deputy Coroner Dan Bates said Herbert Edgar Sais was transported by Hot Spring Ambulance and died en route to a medical center in Ronan.

According to Bates, Sais and his son were cutting down a ponderosa pine when the accident occurred. The pine tree came down and struck a Douglas fir, which wobbled, fell and struck Sais.

Apparently the 8-inch diameter fir tree had root damage caused by a fire, Bates said.
