Flathead Valley Community College is accepting applications for its Scholars Program.

Now entering its second year, the program provides able and motivated students rigorous cross-disciplinary education.

Ivan Lorentzen, program director, said instructors present Scholars courses seminar-style based on student research projects. Students present their projects at a spring conference.

“Students explore a wide range of ideas and thought,” Lorentzen said.

People accepted into the program receive full-tuition scholarships and a renewable cash award and work with faculty mentors. Scholar students have access to a center that consists of a study area and a classroom.

The program has been designed to provide a seamless transition to either the Davidson Honors College at The University of Montana or the Honors Program at Montana State University and to help students succeed in transferring to honors programs at four-year colleges and universities across the nation.

Program graduates receive special designations on their college transcripts and are presented with medallions at the community college commencement.

Courses are limited to 20 students and taught by two instructors. The two honors courses this fall combine the study of psychology and literature and the origins of religion and language.
