Loggers rally by Red Rox

HAMILTON - Libby scored three runs with two outs in the top of the ninth to rally past the Bitterroot Red Sox 6-5 on Thursday in the final game on opening day of the Western A District American Legion baseball tournament.

Tate Wilson started the Libby rally with a two-out walk. Clay Smith directed a pinch-hit single to left field and Dustin Morningstar walked to load the bases.

Eric Riddle followed with a walk to score a run, and Libby then scored the game-tying and game-winning runs on wild pitches with Chris Herbig at the plate.

It was the fifth meeting between the two teams this summer and Libby won for just the second time.

Libby (29-26) is back in action today at 6 p.m. versus the Mission Valley Mariners.

Kalispell 2

HAMILTON - Kalispell got off to a great start, but the end result was a first-round loss to Missoula.

The Lakers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a home run by Sean O'Connell. Missoula (43-20) answered with a run in the bottom half of the third inning, then scored three times in the fourth to take the lead for good.

HAMILTON - RT Llewellyn's walk-off single scored Austin Erler from second base in the bottom of the 10th inning, lifting Bitterroot over Kootenai Valley.

Erler led off the 10th with a double.

Zack Blackstun's RBI double in the ninth tied it for Bitterroot.
