Local golfers set pace at junior state
Three golfers from Kalispell and one from Libby lead their respective age brackets after opening-day play on Sunday at the 2010 Montana Junior Amateur Championship at Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena.
Ryggs Johnston of Libby shot a 77 to top the boys 10-12 age division. Johnston has a four-shot advantage on Ryan Keenan of Bigfork and Garrett Woodin of Billings.
Cody Sherrill of Kalispell fired a 74 for a one-shot edge in boys 13-14 play, while Ryan Porch of Kalispell carded a 70 for a four-stroke lead in boys 15-17.
Teigan Avery of Kalispell turned in an 81 in girls 10-13. She leads by nine shots.
Claire Kelly of Polson, who shot an 84, is second in girls 14-17. She trails the leader by three shots.
The tournament ends today.
