Excuse: 'Gee officer, I just need some weed'

A man told Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies he was “only trying to buy weed” after passers-by reported at 4:01 p.m. Tuesday that a drunk guy was standing along U.S. 2 yelling at people. Officers asked him to quit yelling.

Two cell phones and a wallet were stolen from an auto parked at the Whitefish River bridge crossing Tuesday evening. The owners found the cell phones and the wallet — missing $14 in cash — laying alongside the road a short distance away. The vehicle had been broken into.

People were reportedly jumping a fence at a residential complex in Lakeside at 10:33 a.m. Tuesday to use a hot tub.

Several animal complaints were registered with the sheriff’s office Tuesday and Wednesday. In dog vs. human activity, a boy who was riding his bicycle on Monte Vista Drive at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday was reportedly bitten by a dog. Then, at 6:33 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff’s office received a report that a bicyclist was chased by a dog that tried to bite him while he was riding in Martin City. Also, a black lab was reportedly chasing people at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday on Strong Lane.

Not all dogs in the police report Tuesday were after human targets. People reported their neighbor’s dog attacked their dog at 2:13 p.m. on Sweetgrass Lane. Later, in Bigfork, a dog reportedly entered a yard and bit the family dog at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday. Oh yes, and a pit bull reportedly jumped a fence on Haven Drive at 3:14 p.m. Tuesday and attacked a dog in the yard.

Deputies were called to a residence on Cayuse Lane twice Tuesday morning for arguments and threats. At 7:49 a.m. two women were counseled after they were reportedly arguing. At 8:36 a.m. one of the two women reportedly threatened to hurt herself, but didn’t follow through.

Deputies were called to a report of an assault by a male family member on a woman in Whitefish at 12:08 p.m. Tuesday. The man was gone when officers arrived.

Another woman reported to deputies at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday she had been assaulted at a Shady Lane residence.  

At 10:07 p.m. Tuesday a woman went to the sheriff’s office and told officers she’d been beaten up.

A father and son were counseled by officers after an 11:49 p.m. Tuesday report of them fighting in Columbia Falls.

Child Family Services was called to check on children at a Columbia Falls home after deputies responded to a 12:29 a.m. Wednesday report of a disagreement between a husband and wife there. 

An auto owner reported eggs had been thrown at his vehicle at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in Whitefish.

Officers received a 12:43 p.m. Tuesday report of a child wandering in and out of traffic in Evergreen, but couldn’t find the child.

A mountain bike was reported stolen at 1:08 p.m. Tuesday from a Coram business.

Kalispell Police received a report at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday that someone had spray painted “know your enemy” on an air conditioner on First Avenue East. The victim thought it might have been fallout after he’d fired an employee.

Police officers found a man who was searching for a place to sleep on 14th Street East at 2:13 a.m. Wednesday. The man had crawled into an unlocked car that he thought was abandoned.

A drunk man was reported to be yelling outside a club on First Avenue West at 12:42 a.m. Wednesday. After a police officer spoke to the man he went home.

Police officers talked to three youths who were reportedly riding skateboards in the post office lobby on First Avenue West at 12:32 a.m. Wednesday. They were cited for violating curfew.

A man reported at 11:13 p.m. Tuesday to Kalispell police that his dad’s pickup had been scratched by two women using keys while it was parked at a business on U.S. 93. The man said the scratchers owed him money. 

Kalispell police received a report at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday of a vicious dog on 10th Avenue West that chases people.

Alarms

A Montana Highway Patrol trooper responded to a one-vehicle rollover at 3:41 a.m. Wednesday.

The accident occurred on Sullivan Crossroad near Columbia Falls. An 18-year-old male from Columbia Falls was driving a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup too fast for conditions, according to the patrol. He lost control of the pickup, overcorrected and the pickup rolled. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.

The passenger, a 17-year-old female from Kalispell, was wearing a seat belt, but it failed in the accident, the patrol reported.

Both were taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center. The driver was cited for violating a basic driving rule for driving too fast for conditions and for not wearing a seat belt.

The pickup was totaled.

Kalispell police responded to a 3:20 p.m. Tuesday report of a car fire on Hutton Ranch Road. The driver and another person had used their own fire extinguishers to douse the fire.
