Road work ahead on U.S. 2

| June 12, 2010 2:00 AM

Starting next week, Flathead motorists can expect delays, single-lane traffic and limited left-turn access on U.S. 2 East through much of Evergreen.

The Montana Department of Transportation will install an asphalt overlay on the highway from Seventh Avenue East North (near the Daily Inter Lake building) to the intersection with Montana 35.

Milling of the pavement is scheduled to begin Monday night, weather permitting, and the project should be completed by July 1.

Milling work (removing existing asphalt) will go from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., but daytime traffic may be impacted by other work on the roadway. After the milling is completed, new asphalt will be applied to the highway.

Knife River is the general contractor for the maintenance project, which will include some guardrail work and concrete seal on the Stillwater River bridge.

Bicyclists and motorcyclists should use extreme caution in the construction area.
