As Glacier National Park personnel continue working to open Going-to-the-Sun Road over Logan Pass, day and night road rehabilitation shifts are already under way.

HK Contracting, the park’s main road contractor, started the night shifts on Monday at 9 p.m.

Day and night shifts are under way in two work zones: one between Big Bend and Logan Pass and the other between Siyeh Bend and Logan Pass.

During the 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. work shifts, no traffic will be allowed through the work zones, except for a 15-minute window for passage through the east work zone that starts at 2 a.m.

Park officials say they hope to have Sun Road opened at Logan Pass within the next couple of days.

Efforts to open the road have been hampered by avalanches last weekend and heavy rain that brought down rocks and other debris that had to be cleared from the road.
