Glacier’s Patrick Phattharaampornchai connects on a serve against Flathead’s Cole Francisco during Thursday’s crosstown dual at the FVCC courts. Phattharaampornchai won in two sets, 6-1, 6-3.

Blue skies and tolerable temperatures — in the high 40s — made for a great day for tennis on Thursday in crosstown action at the Flathead Valley Community College courts.

“It’s a successful day,” Glacier coach Josh Munro said.

“We got some good matches in in a couple places, and competitive play in quite a few. It was a good day to work on a few things we’ve been talking about.”

On the scoring front, the day belonged to Glacier. The Wolfpack boys and girls both won by 7-1 scores.

Flathead’s Isabelle Brooks spoiled a Glacier sweep with her 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.

“She looked great,” Flathead coach Buck Measure said.

“She just started playing singles for us. After injuring her ankle earlier in the season, she’s come back and has shown a lot of poise for a freshman.”

Liana Bates, at No. 1 singles, cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory to improve to 12-1 on the season. The Wolfpack junior is 4-0 in crosstown play.

Hailey Blalack, now 11-2, notched an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles for Glacier

In doubles, Cami Mathison and Veronica Walton dominated with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The Wolfpack’s top duo is undefeated.

On the boys side, Glacier’s Kellen Bates raised his season record in No. 1 singles to 13-0 with an easy 6-0, 6-0 verdict.

Teammate Phillip Phattharaampornchai also won by the same scores at No. 3 singles.

Flathead pulled out a victory at No. 1 doubles with Brett Harrison and Jon Cattron. They outlasted Brandon Simpson and Kyle Schmauch in an exciting match, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Glacier also won the other three setter on the day, that was at No. 4 doubles with Brianna Walling and Hilary Syvertson. They stopped Anna Stone and Meghan Garner, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Up next for the varsity is the Kalispell Invitational on Saturday at FVCC and Whitefish. Play starts 9 a.m. at both sites.

The Davis Cup JV meet is today at FVCC at 2 p.m.
