On May 17, 2010, Alberta Mae Lister lost her valiant struggle with breast cancer, surrounded by her loving family, in her brother Mark s home. She was born Feb. 27, 1946, in Edmonton, Canada, the oldest of five children. Her family immigrated to Montana in 1948. After graduating from Flathead High School in 1964, she attended Gonzaga University and later Northern Montana College in Havre. She raised her sons in Kalispell and was recently living with them in the Portland area. Alberta loved her family, cats, hummingbirds, and riding carousels. She had great respect and reverence for Native American culture. The breathtaking mountains of the Flathead inspired and blessed her. She will be greatly missed by her three sons, James Patrick Murphy, of Vancouver, Wash., Shawn Christopher Murphy and wife, Tonya, of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Nicholas Francis Murphy and wife, Kristin, of Aloha, Ore.; four beautiful grandchildren, Tristen, Kean, Mika, and Sydney; as well as four siblings, all of Kalispell: Maxine Pond, Gordon Lister, Marceline Maroney, and Mark Lister; and 13 loving nieces and nephews. Her father and mother, Doug and Geri Lister, preceded her in death. Since Alberta was never closer to heaven than when sitting around a campfire with her family and friends, please join her family in an informal celebration of life at an Open Memorial Campfire Reception between 3 and 6 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at Lone Pine State Park. You are invited to bring your own camp chairs and weather-appropriate clothing. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is caring for the Lister/Murphy family. You are invited to go to www.jgfuneralhome.com to offer condolences and view Alberta s tribute wall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Alberta s memory to Home Options Hospice, 430 Windward Way, Suite 101, Kalispell, MT 59901.
