A 38-year-old man was arrested late Monday night after he allegedly reached for a gun and wrestled with a sheriff’s deputy after he was stopped on U.S. 2 near Kila.

Bryon Walter Petz originally was being sought following a report of criminal mischief at Fatt Boys Bar and Grille in Kalispell after he allegedly shattered the glass of a jukebox.

According to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy located him a short time after the report, at 11:07 p.m. When the deputy approached the window of the vehicle, Petz allegedly reached for a firearm.

Undersheriff Pete Wingert said the deputy pulled Petz from the vehicle and the two wrestled on the ground before the deputy was able to handcuff him. The deputy had minor cuts to his hands following the incident, Wingert said.

Petz was booked in the Flathead County Detention Center on suspicion of assaulting a peace officer, obstructing, resisting arrest, driving under the influence and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.
