Matt Peters took a lot of the pressure off, scoring off a header at 65 minutes in helping Glacier blank Flathead 2-0 on Thursday in Western AA boys soccer play at Glacier.

Brad Holmgren capitalized on a penalty kick just 21 minutes into the action to give Glacier some breathing room early.

Last week against Missoula Sentinel, Glacier scored in the opening half, but surrendered a late goal to Missoula Sentinel to finish with a disappointing tie. That did not happen this time, thanks to Peters.

After he scored, the match was basically over.

"It was a good performance by the guys," Glacier coach Ryan O'Rourke said.

"I was impressed with the way we were able to move the ball."

Glacier clearly dominated play in both halves.

"Bottom line, we got beat by a better group of guys," Flathead coach Chris Putzler said.

"I didn't feel like we linked passes together, especially in the second half. We weren't working for each other as much as we could have."

Glacier had nine shots on goal to Flathead's one, and the Wolfpack also led in corner kicks 5-1.

The loss drops Flathead to 0-9 on the season. Glacier improves to 2-5.

The Wolfpack has now won five straight in the crosstown series and leads overall 5-2.

The two teams will play again on Oct. 14 at Kidsports Complex.

"Brad Holmgren had an excellent second half," O'Rourke said.

"He's the guy who does the distributing in the middle of the field."

Putzler said he switched lineups at halftime in an effort to slow down Glacier.

"We were dominated in the midfield," he said.

"We threw another guy in there."

Flathead plays at Helena High, while Glacier plays at Helena Capital. Both matches are Saturday.
