C.M. Russell senior Katie Fish wouldn't trade places with anyone.

Fish shot 42-38-80 at Buffalo Hill Golf Club on Friday to top the leader board at the Class AA state golf tournament.

Fish owns a two-shot advantage on Bergen Buck of Bozeman heading into today's final round at Big Mountain Golf Club.

Cayley Fish of CMR and Amanda Roberts of Helena Capital are tied for third with 84s.

"I like being first," Katie Fish said.

"That's the best place to be.

"I think there is more pressure on the others," Fish said of those who trail her.

"They have to catch-up."

C.M. Russell and Bozeman are currently tied for the team lead with 341 totals. Missoula Hellgate is third, 367.

Fish, who tied for seventh last year at state, said she was not overly pleased with her round.

"I wanted to be in the 70s," she said.

"But I will settle for 80. What the heck.

"I was hitting really good," she said off the tee.

"I couldn't make a putt. I was over two putts per hole."

Fish did, however, rebound from a tough front nine.

"I tend to do that, have a medium front and a good back," she said.

Fish played Buffalo Hill for the first time last year at the Flatfish Invitational, but says she didn't remember a lot about the course.

"I remember parts of it," she said.

"The doglegs with the hook I have worked out pretty good. It's a fun course to play."

Fish has never played Big Mountain.

"I heard the greens are really fast," she said.

"I will have to adjust to that."

In boys team play, Billings Senior leads a tightly bunched field with a 311 total. Bozeman is second, 312, with Glacier and Billings West tied for third, 313 each.

Brandon McIver of Billings West shot a 2-over 74 to lead the medalist chase. Derek Colberg of Sentinel, 75, is second, while Wyatt Nielson of Bozeman and Anders Nord of Hellgate are tied for third with 76s.

Glacier has three boys in the top 10 - Logan Iverson, 77, is tied for fifth, and Ryan Porch, 78, and Tyson Howe, 78, are in a 10-way tie for eighth place.

Flathead's Michael Lavin, 78, is tied for eighth.

Howe had to scramble to make it into the top 10. The senior carded an eagle on the par 5, 446-yard 15th hole, finished with four birdies - Nos. 6, 7, 12 and 14 - and three pars - 4, 8 and 11.

On the par 5, 535-yard 11th hole, Howe's tee shot went out-of-bounds. He salvaged a par thanks to sticking his second shot 5-feet from the pin.

He opened play on the 13th hole with a bogey.

"I went in pretty calm today," he said of his first state tournament appearance.

"It's weird because I thought I would be a lot more nervous."

Howe said the greens were "pretty touchy," which made for some tough putts.

"I was good off the tees," he said.

"I struggled on the greens.

"Hopefully tomorrow will be better," he added.

"The greens (at Big Mountain) are better suited for my game."
