Donald Warner Casterline, 84

Donald Warner Casterline was born on Aug. 17, 1926, in St. Paul, Minn. He died on Oct. 2, 2010, at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls. Don spent his early years in Minnesota. When he was 12, his family moved to a farm outside of Columbia Falls. He and his younger brother Roger attended the Bad Rock Country School and helped their parents with the farm. Don attended high school in Kalispell and graduated in 1944. From there he went to Spokane where he worked for Anaconda Aluminum, and then on to Seattle where he worked for Boeing. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in January of 1945, serving two years in Korea and Japan. He returned to Montana and married Wilma Logan on Dec. 5, 1948. The couple moved to Los Angeles where he attended the National School. Don received a diploma for diesel, automotive and allied mechanics in December, 1949. They moved to Washington state before returning to Columbia Falls to settle permanently. A daughter, Jean, was born in 1955 and a son, Lyle, was born in 1962. Don worked for Canyon Logging as a diesel mechanic for many years. He also farmed several hundred acres and helped his father and father-in-law with their nearby farms. Don was an active member of the Farmers Union, the Columbia Falls United Methodist Church, and a board member of the Bad Rock Fire Department. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Esther; his wife, Wilma; and son, Lyle. He is survived by his daughter Jean Pulsifer, son-in-law Kevin, and grandsons, Gregory and Eric Pulsifer, all of Ashland, Mass.; his brother, Roger, and niece, Carla Vargas, both of Emerald Hills, Calif.; his sister-in-law, Eleanor Logan, of Lewiston, Idaho; and niece, Judy Logan, of Sebastopol, Calif. He also has many beloved extended family members. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Columbia Falls United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Davis officiating. Immediately following the service, burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors. A reception will be held at the church following the burial. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
