Peggy Aurand, 80

Peggy Aurand, 80, passed away peacefully on Oct. 6, 2010, at the Whitefish Care and Rehabilitation Center. Peggy was born on March 8, 1930, in Singleshot, Mont., to Norman and Elma Heindel. The lovely child attended school until the eighth grade. She had to be tough as she had three rowdy brothers " Gordon, Norman and Dale " to contend with. She had dreams of joining the military and being a nurse for the soldiers. One fateful day when she was 17 years old, she was visiting her cousin when a young gentleman called to visit the household. Upon joining the pinochle game, Charles Aurand was introduced to Peggy and the rest, as they say, is history. Six weeks later, on March 5, 1949, the two were joined in marriage at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. It is said that two old maids down the street, sure of some impropriety, were hoping to do some finger counting to account for the whirlwind courtship, but were sadly disappointed. The young couple lived with her parents for a while until they moved to Snowslip and then to Essex. While there, they were blessed with three children, Janet, Daniel and Charlene. After the big flood of 1964, they moved to Nimrod. In 1979 the family then moved to Lake Five where they lived until the children moved out, they then moved to Columbia Heights. As they got older and needed help with daily things, they moved in with their daughter Charlene, and then eventually to the Colonial Manor. Peggy was fun-loving and full of life. She enjoyed fly fishing and loved to sing. She was especially good at taking care of people and their needs and would gladly make any sacrifice to help those in need. Always maintaining a sense of humor, she had many an adventure worth repeating, but one stands out as a testament to her good grace. While snow skiing with her husband one day, she hit a bump and fell into a snow bank, headfirst. It took a little while to get her out because Charlie was laughing so hard at the sight of her two legs kicking in the air. She let him live. Peggy is survived by her son, Daniel; daughter, Charlene; and her brothers, Gordon, Norman and Dale. She was preceded in death by both her parents; her husband, Charlie; and her daughter, Janet. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 10, at Glacier Memorial Gardens. Please bring your own chairs and umbrellas.
