Pirates get back on winning track; Eureka's Newell wins 100th game

POLSON - Louis Mohr caught two touchdowns in the first quarter and Polson cruised to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in conference with a 47-12 Northwestern A victory over Whitefish on Friday.

Quarterback Vince DiGiallonardo connected with Mohr twice early and finished with 197 yards passing and a TD run. Kyle Bagnell had two field goals and Justin Evertz picked up a fumble and took it 87 yards for the Pirates' final score.

Jeremy Nielsen totaled 97 yards rushing on 12 carries for Whitefish (1-6, 0-3). Jake Skelton had 91 yards rushing and a TD and Chris Cote scored for Polson.

ST. IGNATIUS - Taylor Vaughn ran 5 and 46 yards for touchdowns and caught a 65-yard TD pass from quarterback Colin Gillard as the Lions earned head coach Ed Newell his 100th coaching victory.

Eureka (4-2 overall and 3-1 District 7B) led 29-0 at the half.

Gillard had a hand in the other two scores, passing 4 yards to Ryan Holder for one and running 1 yard for the other.

LIBBY - Corey Chapman ran for two touchdowns and Kody Berget returned a punt 54 yards for another as Libby cruised past Ronan in Northwestern A play.

Chapman's TD scampers were from 29 and 53 yards. He finished with 164 yards on nine carries.

Also scoring for Libby was Colby Rybar on a 12-yard run and Justin Thrailkill on a 5-yard blast.

Libby (4-3 and 2-1) outgained Ronan 322-185 yards. The Loggers rolled up 322 yards on the ground.

Libby led Ronan (4-3 and 1-1) 32-0 at the half.

Fairfield 26, Bigfork 7

FAIRFIELD - Bigfork (4-2) finished with as many turnovers as points and that spoiled any hopes for an upset.

Top-ranked Fairfield (6-0) took full advantage of those miscues for the Class B nonconference win.

"You can't beat anybody with seven turnovers," Bigfork coach Todd Emslie said.

"The kids played hard to the end."

The loss snapped Bigfork's four-game winning streak.

Fairfield used two second-quarter TDs to lead 14-0 at the half. Bigfork scored in the fourth quarter on a 35-yard pass from Christian Ker to Connor Coleman.

Bigfork returns to District 7B action next week at home versus Troy.

Bigfork's other loss this season was to No. 7 Missoula Loyola the opening weekend of the season.
