Anticipation grows in the crowd as a group of nearly 20 bison thunder their way into the corral on Monday during the annual roundup at the National Bison Range near Moiese on Monday. The roundup will bring the entire herd, nearly 400 bison, in for inspection over a two day period. The animals will be weighed and have their microchips scanned. This scan determines which animals will return to the range and which need to be held for donation, sale, research or general health tests. There are four main highlights for those visiting the annual roundup. These include the Visitor Center, where spectators can pick up additional information about bison and their history, the catwalks from which spectators can view the roundup up close, the fence line viewing area where one can view the bison cut, and the bison roundup video "Home on the Range." According the Outdoor Recreation Planner for the National Bison Range Complex Pat Jamieson last year 1100 teachers and students came out to view the roundup.
