Don was received by God into his eternal home Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, after a mercifully quick battle with ALS (Lou Gerhig s disease) diagnosed in June of this year. He would have been 70 years old on Christmas Eve. He precedes his wife of 51 years, Jeannette; two sons, Drew and Joanna of Chatsworth, Calif., and their children, stepson Jason, stepdaughter Veronica, sons, Conner and Sean; and the Rev. Kyle of Polson; two daughters, Sabrina Whaley of Seattle and son Sergei, and Glynis Thakur of Sammamish, Wash., (Dr. Smiley) and sons Asher and Eamon; and Drew s daughter, Brittney of Kalispell, and Andrew Hayes, and Teagan, Brodyn and Macyn. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his prized blessings. He loved his work in the church (LCMS) and in the secular arena for Van Waters & Rogers, agricultural and industrial chemical distributor of Spokane and Billings; as a partner in Dyce Sales & Engineering Service, chemical distributor, Billings; and as the principal consultant in his own firm, Kaltana Corporation, business management consulting, Kalispell and Moses Lake, Wash. As a young man he learned to fly in Grand Coulee, Wash., and he took it up again in Kalispell, earning his commercial and IFR licenses. He earned the coveted Paul Harris Award for years of service in Rotary. According to his wishes, he will be laid to rest at Spring Canyon-Grand Coulee, Wash. There will be a graveside service for family and friends at 11 a.m. and memorial at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Grace Lutheran Church, 303 Nelson Road, Moses Lake, Wash. The family wishes to thank the Inland Empire ALS Association, Summer Wood care givers, and Central Basin Home Health and Hospice for their loving care while he was ill; also his cribbage playing friends and the employees at Sporty s Pub and Michael s on the Lake for their support and friendship. Donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church; Inland Empire ALS; Central Basin Home Health and Hospice; or a charity of your choosing.
