EUREKA - The Eureka Lions are heading into the Class B football playoffs on a four-game win streak following Wednesday's 35-0 regular-season finale victory against Darby.

The nonconference victory puts Eureka at 6-2 overall. The team finished second in District 7B with a 3-2 record.

In the playoffs for the fourth-straight year and ninth time in the last 11 years, the Lions will host 10th-ranked Columbus (5-2) on Oct. 30.

On Wednesday, senior quarterback Colin Gillard passed for 233 yards and three TDs. Gillard connected with junior Bryton Guckenberg on a 45-yard pass to opening a scoring stretch that ended with 35 points by halftime. Guckenberg finished with two TDs and 100 yards receiving. Teammate Ryan Holder had 103 yards on four catches. Senior Taylor Vaughn rushed for 106 yards and a TD. Holder also had two interceptions on defense and Guckenberg had one.

"We're doing some good things right now," Eureka head coach Ed Newell said. "We're playing some of our best football here at the end. We've got some work to do in some areas but we feel good about the direction we're going in."
