SCS volleyball, soccer advance in MCAA play

Stillwater Christian School's volleyball team opened Montana Christian Athletic Association state tournament play on Thursday by defeating Great Falls Home School and Billings Christian School by 3-0 scores at Stillwater Christian School.

SCS (28-0) will meet Helena Christian School tonight in the winners' bracket at 6.

"We started out a little slow, ahead 9-7 when the team started to play some great volleyball," SCS coach Dave Shawback said of the 25-13, 25-7, 25-8 victory over Great Falls Home School in the evening match.

"Linnea Hashley had a great night serving and attacking the volleyball. Linnea served six of the team's 14 aces and she served 100 percent. She also had six kills for the team."

SCS defeated Billings Christian School 25-5, 25-12, 25-12 in the first round.

"This was a good team win," Shawback said of the opener.

"Sarah Paolini and Colleen Trageser had big roles in this match to help the team to win. Nine of our 10 players contributed to our defense with digs."

Flathead Valley Home School lost its opening-round match to Great Falls Home School 3-1.

Flathead Valley Home School will play Billings Christian School today at 10 a.m. in a loser-out match.

Yellowstone County High School faces Helena Home School at noon in loser-out action.

Stillwater Christian School opened MCAA state tournament action with a 9-0 victory over Great Falls Home School.

Josh Bray scored three goals and assisted on two more for SCS, which improves to 11-5-2 overall.

Also scoring for the Cougars were Zach Waldher, Zane Kloeckl (2), Cody Harmon and Daniel Jentz.

"Good team play and sportsmanship from both teams," SCS coach Timothy Anderson said.

"Tomorrow we are in the semifinal against Foothills Community Christian School. Last year we beat FCCS in the final match. This year we tied them 3-3 in nonconference play. This will be a very competitive match."

The semifinal is set for 1 p.m. today.

Foothills advanced with a 9-1 victory over Mission Valley Christian Academy (Polson).

Also Thursday, Heritage Christian School (Bozeman) defeated Helena Christian School 1-0, and Yellowstone County Home School defeated Stillwater Christian School JV 11-2.

Heritage and Yellowstone play today in semifinal action at 11 a.m.

The championship match is 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
