Eight straight state soccer titles for SCS

Stillwater Christian School captured its eighth straight Montana Christian Athletic Association state soccer championship on Saturday afternoon with a 7-3 victory over Yellowstone County Home School.

Yellowstone scored first, just 1:30 into play, and last at 33 minutes, but Stillwater dominated.

Josh Bray and Zane Kloeckl both scored three goals for SCS (13-5-2). Josh LeGassey had the other one.

Bray and Kloeckl also assisted on goals.

"After a slow start by allowing a quick goal by Yellowstone, we played our best game and half of soccer this year," SCS coach Timothy Anderson said. "Our pressure defense allowed great ball movement and attacking, and we pushed the tempo of the game."

Anderson said Kloeckl, Bray, Zach Waldher and Ryan Koch gave the Cougars great combination plays up front that led to the goals.

"Cody Harmon stayed marked up on YCHS's leading scorer (Eric Flanagan) and kept him scoreless until the end of the first half," Anderson said.

"It was great team soccer.

"Yellowstone never gave up and kept pressuring all game," he added.

"This has been a special year with a great group of young men. They played unselfishly and it showed with their execution as a team on the field."

It was the second meeting of the season for Stillwater and Yellowstone. The Cougars also won the first matchup 4-2.
