Bravettes fall to Capital in state soccer

GREAT FALLS - The Flathead Bravettes' bid for third place came up short in another overtime match.

Helena Capital edged Flathead 2-1 in the Class AA girls state soccer consolation game on Saturday.

The overtime loss was Flathead's second in as many days. The Bravettes lost to state champ Billings West in the semifinals on Friday. The fourth-place finish is the Bravettes' third in four years and fifth in nine years.

Senior Chelsea Shuman scored the Bravettes' lone goal in the 57th minute. Shuman ends her impressive season with 15 goals. Flathead finishes the season 8-4-3.

Billings West defeated Billings Senior 2-0 in overtime to claim its second-straight state title.

On the boys side, Helena defeated Helena Capital 1-0 in an overtime shootout to win the program's second state title in four years. Billings Senior defeated Bozeman in the consolation game 3-2.
