Fallen fire captain honored

A large procession of fire engines and other emergency response vehicles motored through the Kalispell area in honor of a longtime West Valley Fire and Rescue captain Thursday. Leslie Wayne Shlegel died at 59 of a heart attack Sept. 4. The procession traveled from the site of the funeral at Northridge Lutheran Church to the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. Schlegel served the department for 34 years as captain, assistant chief and battalion chief.  

Kalispell Police were called when a 20-month-old child was locked in a vehicle on Parkway Drive. The vehicle was unlocked and the baby was not harmed.

A hit-and-run collision was reported by someone on North Meridian Road.

Someone stole a bicycle from a home on Ponderosa Street.

An angry mother on Greatview Drive called officers after a man put her son in a headlock, leaving a red mark.

A 51-year-old woman was arrested on South Main Street on warrants for burglary and theft.

On U.S. 2 West, a man wasn’t sure if he lost a pistol or if it was stolen.

City employees worked to clear a transient camp near Lawrence Park.

A washer and dryer were apparently stolen from a home on Indian Trail Road.

Someone on Seventh Avenue East thought a neighbor’s kids were using drugs.

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man for partner/family member assault after he allegedly kicked in the door at a home on Park Street during an apparent domestic dispute.

A man who invited a woman to stay with him on Antelope Trail called deputies when she refused to leave.

Noise was heard on the roof of a vacant building on U.S. 2 East. Nothing suspicious was found.

A bicycle was stolen on Willow Glen Drive. A cell phone was taken from a vehicle on Ridgeway Drive. A camera was stolen from a vehicle on Conrad Drive.

Sexual assault was reported by a woman who stopped at the sheriff’s office. It allegedly occurred 17 months ago.

A man was arrested after he was seen fighting with a woman on Parliament Drive.

Someone on U.S. 2 West told deputies her house has been burglarized on three separate occasions.

On Angel Point Road, a Nissan pickup truck described as “not road worthy” was stolen. The truck was believed to have been seen in Dayton.

Two juveniles allegedly displayed an obscene gesture after the owner of property near U.S. 2 East accused them of trespassing.
