Helena sweeps Glacier

Lily Kiely scored midway through the second half, helping Helena High down Glacier 1-0 on Friday in Western AA girls soccer play.

"Defensively, we're sound," Glacier coach Paul Holmgren said.

"We're struggling to find a rhythm on our offensive part of game. That's what we're working on. It shows up on shots on goal and scoring."

Holmgren said Liana Bates (defensive mid) and Jacque Willich (defense) "had outstanding games for us today with their composure, keeping Helena off balance and clearing the ball."

Holmgren said senior Amber McCann, a forward/outside mid position, "played a steady game. We still need people to step up and shoot."

Glacier (0-1-1) hosts Helena Capital today at noon.

Dylan Allen had a hand in two first-half goals as Helena High topped Glacier in Western AA play.

Allen assisted on Stewart Miller's goal two minutes into play, then followed with his own goal.

Helena led 3-0 at the break.

Brad Holmgren, with an assist from Matt Peters, scored for Glacier.

"It was another pretty difficult game," Glacier coach Ryan O'Rourke said.

"We let in some pretty soft balls, which is frustrating to do."

O'Rourke, however, did see signs of improvement.

And ...

"A couple guys had some great games," he said.

"Jake Lockwood (stopper) and Matt Peters (right half), both sophomores, demonstrated a lot of maturity ... just their composure with the ball, to win it and do something very effective with it."

Glacier (0-2) hosts Helena Capital today at 10 a.m.
