Record run by Sagen at Eureka Invite
EUREKA - Jessica Sagen broke the Eureka Invitational meet record with a fast time of 19 minutes, 41 seconds on Friday to help Whitefish's runners claim the team title at Indian Springs Ranch Golf Course.
The old mark was set last year by Bailey Eaton of Whitefish, 20:02.
Eaton finished second to Sagen on Friday with a time of 19:45.
Also breaking the old course record time was Whitefish's Carly Schwickert, 19:59. She placed third.
Whitefish's Stella Holt was fourth, 20:31.
The Whitefish girls totaled 16 points and were the lone school to field a full squad.
"They go back-and-forth," Whitefish coach Sara Brist said of Sagen, who won for the first time this season, and Eaton, who led the team at Libby.
"That was Carly Schwickert's first time under 20 minutes. It was a good race for her."
The Whitefish boys, led by fifth-place finisher Nathan Knox, 18:34, took the team title with 36 points. Plains, who had the two top runners in Carter Montgomery, 17:11, and Kenneth Beech, 18:08, finished second with 52.
Whitefish had four runners in the top 10.
"They ran well together as a pack, especially for our second race (of the season)," Brist said of her top four.
Fischer Gangemi was sixth, 18:36, Jace Kalbfleisch seventh, 18:48; Will Holdhusen eighth, 18:55; and Dietrich Perchy 10th, 19:02.
