Roderick, Bozeman upend Glacier

Every time the Bozeman Hawks looked vulnerable, Tanner Roderick was there to save the day, all day.

The elusive senior quarterback combined for 339 yards and five touchdowns to give the No. 2 Hawks a 35-13 victory over Glacier at Legends Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Roderick rushed for 202 yards and three TDs to go along with 137 yards passing and two more scoring hookups for Bozeman (3-0 overall).

"Oh my gosh, he's not too bad. He can make some stuff happen," Bozeman head coach Troy Purcell said.

"Anytime he's got the ball in his hand, he's definitely a threat. I don't know how you defend that kid."

"The thing about Tanner Roderick is he has another gear," Glacier head coach Grady Bennett said.

"And there's very few athletes who have that. You think you've got him, and you have him either wrapped up or you've got the angle and then he just turns it into another gear."

Glacier (1-2) didn't help itself either. A week after shocking CMR on the road, the Wolfpack came out flat on offense and failed to earn a first down until two and a half minutes into the second quarter.

"We started nervous and were just unaggressive and made mistakes. You can't do that against a good team like Bozeman," Bennett said.

"It was definitely a frustrating, disapointing night."

Glacier quarterback Colter Hanson finished 15 of 22 for 224 yards and two TDs. Trailing 21-0 just before halftime, Hanson connected with Bryan Chery on a 25-yard pass in the end zone to put Glacier on the scoreboard. In the third quarter, Hanson hit Anthony Gugliuzza, who sprinted in for the 58-yard TD. But the scoring dried up from there.

"They're as good as advertised, but, and there's a big but there, we didn't play very well," Bennett said.

Roderick had his mortal moments, but they were few and far between. Seemingly every third down was fixable and every Glacier blitz was avoidable for the athletic quarterback.

Glacier's defense even kept the Hawks below they're average 500-yards-a-game. But without the offense clicking, Glacier's defense was kept on the field play after play.

"You don't ever become a champion without going through some ups and downs and some adversity," Bennett said.

"These guys have a goal of being a championship caliber team. So we got to learn from this and just continue to work."

The Wolfpack continues its tough opening schedule with a home game against No. 3 Helena next Friday.
