| September 11, 2010 2:00 AM

Alpine Theatre Project continues its community outreach program, Alpine Kids! Theatre Project, with auditions for its upcoming production of Disney’s “Mulan Jr.” today at 11 a.m. at the Whitefish Middle School Auditorium.

The production, for youth in grades 1-8, is part of its Alpine Kids! Theatre Project: Theatre Education Through Performance program.

The fall session will be taught by professional actors Luke Walrath and Holly Hendricks and will be overseen by Artistic Director Betsi Morrison.

The program is open to all interested children in the Flathead Valley. Performances tentatively are scheduled Oct. 16-17 at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center.

Students will be given audition materials on site and must be prepared to sing and move.

“Mulan Jr.” is based on the popular Disney animated musical, “Mulan.”

In it, the Huns have invaded ancient Imperial China and it is up to the misfit Mulan and her mischievous sidekick Mushu to save the emperor.

The score includes favorites such as “Reflection,” “Honor to Us All” and “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” as well as new songs specifically written for the stage production.

Rehearsals will take place in Whitefish Mondays through Fridays from 4 to 6 p.m.

A small tuition fee will be required for participation in the program with scholarships available based on need. Those interested in more information can call 862-9050 or e-mail Morrison at betsi@alpinetheatreproject.org.
