MISSOULA - The Glacier soccer squads picked up their first victories of the season with a pair of Western AA shutouts against Missoula Big Sky on Tuesday.

The Wolfpack boys (1-3 overall) edged Missoula Big Sky 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Josiah Bumgarner.

The Wolfpack girls (1-2-1) defeated the Eagles 2-0 behind a strong performance in goal by Patty Hughes and two goals from Anna Deleray.

"It feels great to get the first win," Glacier boys coach Ryan O'Rourke said. "We continued to play well but today we pressured really well through the middle of the field. Our two senior captains, Ian Cavigli and Brad Holmgren, really provided excellent leadership and very good defense today."

The story was similar in the girls' game. Hughes, a senior, made 14 saves and Deleray scored twice thanks to assists from Amber McCann. The midfield came through as well, head coach Paul Holmgren said.

"It seemed like everything was working for us today," Holmgren said. "The biggest key was we got our midfield working today."

Holmgren also credited the play of Chantal Gustine and Lauren Waldenberg.

Sean Peters made four saves in goal for the Glacier boys.
