Perrin, Starkey place fourth at Mountain West

MISSOULA - A pair of local runners placed fourth at the massive Mountain West Classic cross country meet on Saturday.

Flathead sophomore Zach Perrin came in four seconds behind third place with a time of 15:34 and was the top Montana placer in the boys three-mile race. As a team, Flathead took eighth with 317 points.

Polson freshman Aja Starkey edged Billings Senior's Dani Aragon for fourth place with 17:59 in the girls race.

Glacier's Troy Fraley placed 14th and Flathead's Hunter Schutt came in 18th. Derrick Williams placed 20th for Columbia Falls.

The Whitefish girls had three runners in the top 50 and placed third as a team with 214 points. Jessica Sagen placed 24th, Bailey Eaton was 28th and Carly Schwickert was 47th.

"The kids ran well and it was fun to see them get recognized with all those Spokane schools," Whitefish coach Bill Brist said.

"It was a huge meet and it was tough cross country. Having those out-of-state schools adds a whole new edge."

Paige Bouma paced the Bravettes with 14th place and Heather Fraley came in 18th place for Glacier.

Glacier coach Mike McLean said the Fraleys competed tremendously, and as a team, the Wolfpack boys improved greatly from previous years at the giant Missoula meet.

"We had some breakthrough races today. Ada Harris ran a big personal best and the other guys ran well, too. We're very pleased," McLean said.
