Patricia Ann Patty Smith, 79

Patricia Ann Patty Smith, 79, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at Health Center Northwest in Kalispell. She was born on Oct. 2, 1930, in Fargo, N.D., the daughter of Roscoe Marcus and Alice (Mattson) Perry. The family moved to Glasgow when Patty was young and moved to Cut Bank in 1939, attended schools and graduated from Cut Bank High School in 1948. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., with a major in fashion design. While in high school, she met her future husband, Darrell, at Lake Blaine where Darrell s family owned and operated the Lake Blaine Resort. She and Darrell were married on June 20, 1950, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cut Bank. Following their marriage they helped operate the Lake Blaine Resort for about a year. In 1952, Darrell became a partner at Perry Motors in Cut Bank, until selling it in 1964. Patty loved being a stay-at-home mom, raising her three daughters. She sewed all of her children s clothes and enjoyed cake decorating. While she was in college, one of her designs was made into a pattern for Butterick s. She was an accomplished clothing designer and seamstress. From 1978 until 1984, Patty was the secretary for the Soil Conservation Service. In 1985 she bought and operated the Jeane B. Shoppe for 12 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Bridge Club, PEO, and also a deacon and elder of her church all in Cut Bank. Patty was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell. She is survived by her three daughters, Judy Smith and husband, Chris Weeks, of San Clemente, Calif., Cathy Lauenstein and husband, Gunnar, of Ellicott City, Md., and Peggy Erickson and husband, Reid, of Livingston; a brother, Donald Perry, and his wife, Judy, of Libby; and five grandchildren, Karl, Kristina, Kimberly, Katrin and Gibson; as well as three nephews, Keven, Curtis and Kent; and one niece, Crystal. Funeral services for Patty will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cut Bank. Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery in Kalispell. The family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church in Cut Bank, P.O. Box 577, Cut Bank, MT 59427; or the local P.E.O. chapter.
