Glacier National Park will celebrate the 17th annual National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 25, by waiving entrance fees for all visitors.

National Public Lands Day is the largest, single-day volunteer event in the United States.

Due to an overwhelming response to volunteer opportunities throughout 2010 and the number of volunteer projects currently under way in Glacier, there are no specific events being held on Saturday.

Park Superintendent Chas Cartwright said in a news release: “It has been wonderful to see the outpouring of volunteer efforts during Glacier’s centennial commemoration. People of all ages worked on miles of trails, painted dozens of buildings, and improved a number of campgrounds. We will likely double the amount of volunteer hours we saw last year. The contribution to the park is invaluable.”

Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year.

For more information on volunteering at Glacier, contact Brooke Linford at brooke_linford@nps.gov or 406-888-7851.

All entrance fees into the park, including those for commercial tours, will be waived on Saturday. The fee waiver does not apply to other fees for camping, reservations, tours and use of concessions.

The next fee-free day is Nov. 11 (Veterans Day) when veterans, military personnel and their families receive free admission.
